Friday, March 5, 2010 ·

It was news that Iverson will not return for the rest of the season and will be retiring to focus on his family. But suddenly his wife, Tawanna Iverson, filed for divorce the same day the Philadelphia 76ers announced his plans for his career.that the All-Star guard would not return for the rest of the season.

They have five kids; youngest child is 17 months old and the oldest is 15 and according to the former MVP wife their marriage is irritably broken.

Subsequent to rejoining the 76ers as a free agent in December 2009, Iverson returned to Atlanta in February 2010 to be with his family and deal with an undisclosed illness affecting his 4-year-old daughter, Messiah.

The former league MVP and the one who bring the team into the finals (Sixers) is also a four-time scoring champion averaging 13.8 points in 28 games this season. He started the season with Memphis but only played three games before announcing a short-lived retirement.

Allen Iverson was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1996 draft and spent 10 seasons in Philadelphia before he was traded to Denver in December 2006. He won the MVP in 2001 when he led the Sixers to the NBA finals.

This is not an easy chapter in Allen’s life. It is maybe between work, obligations and your family. It was him who brought Sixers into the Finals in 2001 and made it a historic Finals game 1.
